Join us on May 2, 2022 for a full-day course on human hacking - identifying threats and best practices presented by former CIA intelligence officer Peter Warmka.  8 CPE credits will be awared for attending this full-day event.

Course Synopsis

The astronomical growth of successful data breaches suffered by organizations is a direct result of sophisticated targeting efforts by criminal groups, foreign intelligence services, industrial competitors, and activist groups.  As part of their attack strategy, these threat actors will carefully select and assess key insiders.   Identified motivations and vulnerabilities are effectively leveraged to manipulate such insiders into undertaking actions which are typically in direct conflict with established ethical standards.

During times of crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and current geopolitical instability, many employees become increasingly vulnerable to such approaches due to growing financial stress.   Extended periods of working remotely can also result in a disconnection with the organization’s culture and values leaving the employee less loyal to their employer.

In this engaging session, we’ll dive into the methodology utilized by threat actors to target organizations and include examples of advanced social engineering techniques deployed against selected key insiders.  We will finalize with a discussion on best practices for minimizing such threats along with how to reinforce ethical integrity among the entire workforce.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the key threat actors and their objectives in breaching the security of a target organization
  • Recognize what information publicly disseminated by the organization or its employees can significantly increase vulnerability to attacks
  • Appreciate how personal information revealed on social media platforms can be used to assess motivations and vulnerabilities leveraged by social engineers in target manipulation
  • Identify and describe four communication channels which can effectively be utilized by human hackers in advanced social engineering approaches
  • Learn best practises to mitigate the threats of human hacking at the personal and organizational level
