Overview of Presentation
Privacy has been a casualty of the digital age. Technological advancements have created opportunities for government, corporations, and private individuals to have unprecedented access to personal information. Collecting, accessing, and storing private information has created a whole new set of ethical dilemmas. Accessing electronic devices, bypassing security settings, befriending subjects on social media, or accessing online accounts without authorization can have serious real-world consequences. This interactive presentation will explore ethical and legal pitfalls to navigate our world driven by big data and interconnected technology.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the definition of ethics and the process of ethical decision making.
- Understand some of the reasons that digital privacy and protection of personal identifying information is such a highly debated topic.
- Understand some of the legal and ethical pitfalls they may encounter in careers.
- Understand that the ability to access data and the authorization to access data are not the same thing.
- Understand the consequences of unethical decisions and how it can negatively impact their reputation, credibility and career. It can also have serious consequences such as jeopardize legal admissibility, civil or even criminal prosecution.

Credit Hours: Anyone attending the entire conference will receive 8 CPE credit hours. To ensure requirements are met attendees must sign into the conference in the morning and pick up their CPE certificates at the end of the conference. If you need to leave early, you must notify a PACFE board member (will be identified at conference) when you leave to be eligible for prorated credit hours based on the sessions you attended.
